Y10 Media Studies: Serial TV Drama Recommended ‘Watch List’
Due to the nature of the Media Studies exam, you will be expected to watch several serial TV dramas which will then be used as evidence for the codes and conventions of specific genres in your exam.
The following is a list of suitable serial TV dramas (age appropriate) that you can use to prepare you for the exam: (This list is not exclusive. You are not expected to watch the entire list. This is simply a list of options that are considered age appropriate.)
Call the Midwife (14+)
Casualty (12+)
Dickensian (PG)
Doc Martin (12+)
Downton Abbey (12+)
Dr Who (11+)
Glee (14+)
Holby City (12+)
Sherlock (14+)
Star Trek: The Next Generation (PG)
Teen Wolf (13+)
Any other age appropriate TV drama
Please note that soaps and sitcoms are not included.
Remember that generally (but not always) serial TV dramas are characterised by having 3-12 episodes in each series and that episodes tend to be between 45 minutes and 1 hour long.
